We rely on our multidisciplinary team to promote communication, efficiency and the best of partnerships.We are excited to invite a Vehicles Fire & Collision Investigators to be part of our awesome team in Ottawa.Read on to find what the position looks like…Reporting to the Ottawa Regional Manager, this is a technically demanding, challenging and most rewarding role requiring not only a thorough understanding of the nature and functions of various systems in vehicles of all kinds, but also a strong automotive engineering knowledge base. The role handles or leads technical investigations involving fire, explosion or mechanical failures associated with vehicles and machinery, from initially collecting the evidence on site to preparing the final technical report and ultimately giving expert testimony in a court if needed.Are you passionate about problem solving? Get out your Sherlock Holmes suit and come investigate with CEP Forensics’ team of investigation engineers.Responsibilities :Conduct or lead investigations to determine the root and cause of fire, explosion, collision and mechanical breakage of vehicles including light, heavy, commercial, passenger, trucks, haulers, farm equipment and large off-road mobile machinery and equipment.Visit location of the incident, record and gather facts and evidence regarding the background and circumstances surrounding the incident by surveying, taking photographs, videos, event data recorder (EDR), interviewing individuals associated with the incident, witnesses, and first responders. Prepare collision reconstruction reports and documentation.Review technical documentation that may include engineering drawings, relevant standards, regulations, codes, operating manuals, and maintenance records.Collaborate with experts in other disciplines as needed for complex investigations requiring different specialties.As needed, carefully dismantle components or assemblies in a systematic and non-destructive manner to obtain the evidence. Perform on-site or laboratory examinations of the evidence to assess if it may have been a cause of a loss and determine the failure mechanism. Safely secure evidence for further analysis, and presentation to client and/or in court if required.Promptly provide preliminary verbal and/or written opinion to the clients in a form that can be readily understood by a layperson. Attend client meetings to discuss the investigation outcome.Prepare final investigation finding reports that may be in the form of a brief letter style or a detailed, illustrated report depending on the complexity of the case.Provide expert testimony in the court when required, which will involve being questioned in detail by a barrister, who will be well prepared with a briefing by a technical subject expert.Manage multiple projects simultaneously and execute all phases according to internal and external standards. Liaise with and work as part of multi-disciplinary teams investigating the technical aspects of insurance or legal related losses.Develop supervision and mentorship skills to provide support for professional development to early career employees in your team.Participate in marketing and business development activities. Promote CEP as effective business partner. Identify potential clients, build business relationships, and generate new business.Always follow HSE guidelines, procedures, and policies. Ensure safety of self, others, and the assets.Requirements :Combination of education and experience. Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred but not mandatory5-10 years of relevant experienceCVFI certificationAbility to communicate in French and expert level English communication skillsProfessional report writing skills and ability to review documents prepared by other expertsExcellent synthesis, analysis, problem-solving, and leadership skillsProficient in MS Office and Google AppsHands-on knowledge of applied general and industrial mechanics, typical failure mechanisms and types of testing with ability to use variety of test equipment and devicesConcern for efficiency, attention to detail, excellent common sense, planning, organizing and prioritization.
