With Golder now part of our WSP team, we have over 14,000 multidisciplinary professionals worldwide collaborating daily to protect and conserve natural landscapes, create firm foundations for communities to stand on, and champion sustainable development to combat climate change.As part of the team, you will have access to an unparalleled network of resources, expertise, and endless opportunities to collaborate on exciting projects with diverse teammates from marine biologists to geophysicists to geotechnical engineers and more.We have an opportunity for a Principal Geotechnical Tailings Engineer to join our Mine Waste Management Team on a full-time basis based in Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon or Vancouver.You will have the opportunity to work as a part of a national team on challenging mining, heavy civil, and geotechnical projects.An overview of your role will include:   Direct a wide variety of geotechnical and mine waste management projects, including field investigation; laboratory testing and interpretation; design and construction; geotechnical analysis; and dam safety inspections and reviewsDirect and review geotechnical analyses with a focus on soil mechanics; provide technical expertise in your specializationManage quality control and risks during geotechnical and design work, including a critical review of resultsDirect or manage large, complex, and/or multidisciplinary projects according to client-approved scopes of work, and deliver high-quality reports and drawings on time and within budgetMaintain existing client relationships and develop new business opportunitiesComplete or review technical proposals and design work packages in response to client needsCoach and mentor junior and intermediate staff with respect to their career growth and professional developmentParticipate in hiring, performance reviews, and training decisionsParticipate in the development and implementation of the mining business planParticipate in and promote a safety-first culture You will have a background in:15+ years of relevant (post-degree) experience working in a consulting engineering or mining industry environmentBachelor’s Degree in Civil or Geological Engineering, Master’s Degree preferredCurrently registered as a Professional Engineer in a Canadian province or territoryExpertise in soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering, with a technical specializationExcellent technical writing, interpersonal communication, and emotional intelligenceAbility to establish good relationships with clients and colleaguesStrong, client-focused project direction and business development skillsAbility to manage risk and have excellent engineering judgementAbility to effectively delegate work on interdisciplinary project teamsBe able to work in and lead diverse teamsBusiness acumen and leadershipSpanish and/or French language skills (verbal and written) would be an assetCommitment to safe work practices for yourself and your colleagues
