Reporting to the Manager, Airport Terminal Projects, the successful candidate will manage construction and related activities for engineering projects at locations across Sea Island.Key responsibilities include:Manage construction activities, including overseeing construction site activities involving a general contractor and/or multiple trade contractors; reviewing and documenting work progress, quality control, compliance with YVR standards and safety procedures; conducting site inspections, managing the identification and resolution of deficiencies, and addressing variances onsite with the contractor(s)Administering construction contracts, including preparing, reviewing, responding to, tracking and managing the processing of key project documentation such as contracts, general correspondence and permits; operational impacts, Lockouts, Requests for Change, Plans of Construction; Site Instructions, Field Work Orders, Contemplated Change Orders, Change Orders; Supporting the Project Engineer, as assignedInterfacing with operations and other stakeholders in order to establish site boundary locations, transportation routes, etc.; respond to and resolve construction site issues impacting operations; and support operational commissioning and handover activitiesMaterials management, including coordinating the procurement of owner-supplied equipment and miscellaneous project materials, and collaborating with other projects for use and management of shared materials and equipmentKey qualifications include:At least five years of construction management/field experience in institutional projects involving relevant disciplines (i.e. structural, architectural, mechanical and/or electrical), with at least two years’ experience at an airport or other environment of similar complexity, supplemented by a post-secondary certificate or diploma in Engineering Technology, Construction Management or similar; or an equivalent combination of training and experienceGeneral knowledge of construction contracts, tendering, contracting and sub-contracting, construction industry practices and standards, buildings and building systems, cost estimating and scheduling, construction safety and hazardous materials managementDemonstrated ability to read construction drawings and visualize in three dimensionsExcellent communication skills, particularly in the areas of technical writing, negotiation and issues resolution, with an ability to work with multiple internal and external parties, sometimes in high pressure situationsProven proficiency in Word processing, spreadsheets, databases, project scheduling software, CAD/BIMExceptional organization, coordination and time management skillsProven ability to identify and assess risksInterdisciplinary problem-solving skillsClass 5 driver’s licenseThis position is open to both Vancouver Airport Authority employees and external candidates.
