We have a 20-bed inpatient detox unit, outpatient youth counselling, youth day treatment and supportive recovery programs.COVID-19 considerations: To keep our staff and clients safe we have implemented COVID 19 protocols including mandated vaccinations for staff, social distancing, appropriate personal protective equipment and restricted public access to our facilityJob Summary: this is a casual positionThis requires flexibility and responsiveness.  Reporting to the Detox Program Supervisor, the Detox Worker 2 (DW) is part of a multidisciplinary team, performing a variety of program related duties in support of clients in inpatient detox services within a harm reduction model. The DW needs to be capable of functioning as a team member, as well as independently. The position involves shift work consisting of working four 11 hour shifts (2 Day Shifts, followed by 2 Night shifts).Key Duties and Responsibilities:Admission and Assessment of ClientsScreens and assesses clients for admission/non admission, entering information in the booking program as requiredDoes admissions and discharges, performing all related tasksPerforms 24-hour assessmentsTakes and records vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse and respirationDocuments client information, including discharge summaries, accurately and in a timely fashionAssists in dealing with crisis situations requiring medical management/behavioural managementClient Support and EducationDelivers client education as required, including “Take Home Naloxone” educationConducts house meetings for clientsProvides recovery planning opportunities for clients supporting their right to self-determination and arranging support by the Inpatient Discharge CoordinatorOtherMakes beds and does agency laundryAssists with general cleaning of kitchen and client common areasPerforms other related duties as required and directed by the Detox Supervisor and/or her designateQualifications:EducationMinimum of 2-year diploma in social or human services from a recognized educational institute or equivalentTrainingAt least 2 years training in the field of mental health and substance useCPR certificationExperienceAt least 2 years’ experience in the field of mental health and substance useAt least 2 years’ experience in working with the harm reduction treatment modelKnowledgeWorking knowledge of Microsoft Office applicationsMaintains knowledge of developments in the field of chemical dependency  withdrawal and treatmentSkills and Abilities:CommunicationDemonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, co-workers and people in the community.Demonstrated ability to document clearly, concisely and accuratelyProven ability to work as a team memberDemonstrated ability to be respectful, empathetic, non-judgmental to clients and colleagues.Problem-solvingDemonstrated ability to organize and prioritizeDemonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problemsDemonstrated ability to respond to a crisis in a competent, professional mannerOtherPhysical ability to carry out the duties of the positionDemonstrated flexibility to meet the needs of a demanding work environment
