Lead Mechanical Engineer – 6 month contract
MECHANICAL HVAC ENGINEER – contract position
Contract Length: 6 months
Location: Vancouver, BC
Main Job Responsibilities:
• Organize/plan jobs, write/review specifications, prepare/maintain schedules, develop/monitor estimates and manpower forecasts, assign work, work with p project/client/field, material procurement, permit, and subcontract activities
• Prepare and perform schedules, estimates, progress reports, material forecasts, meetings, procurement activities, etc.
• Assist in audits
• Assist, as required, in the development of department standards and procedures
• Utilize vendor data and work with personnel from other disciplines as required for the performance of designs
• Perform squad check of vendor data and drawings from other disciplines
• Travel, as required, to ensure the successful execution of project and/or department goals
• Develop client relations
• Check contractor drawings and vendor submittals for compliance with codes, standards and project requirements
Capable of taking a project from green-field to as-built
Specific Fire Protection Job Requirements:
• Analyze the fire hazards and determine the scope of fire protection required
• Estimate fire flow rates and pressures for all areas
• Produce a design criteria and discuss alternatives with the insurance underwriters
• Design clean agent extinguishing, foam systems, deluge, wet and dry s sprinklers, standpipes, fire water pumps
• Produce drawings reflecting the designs for either: A) design build contractor to install, or B) a contractor to install
Specific HVAC Job Responsibilities:
• Design HVAC systems for process buildings, electrical buildings, administration buildings
• Analyze the HVAC requirements
• Determine the scope of HVAC required
• Produce a design criteria,
• Estimate HVAC flow rates and equipment power for all areas
• Create HVAC specifications,
• Perform technical bid evaluations for HVAC equipment
Specific Dust Control Job Responsibilities:
• Design dust collection systems for mineral processing plants
• Analyze the dust collection requirements
• Determine the scope of dust collection required
• Produce a design criteria
• Estimate dust collection flow rates and equipment power for all areas
• Create dust collection specifications
• Perform technical bid evaluations for dust collection equipment
Basic Job Requirements
An accredited 4-year Bachelors degree, or equivalent, in Engineering Technology.
– 10 years of related experience.
– Previous EPCM experience as asset.
– Excellent communication skills
– Excellent team player but also able to work independently
Specific Fire Protection Job Requirements:
• A member or eligible to be a member of NFPA, or SFPE
• Working knowledge of North American fire codes and NFPA standards
• Working knowledge of FM and IRI requirements
• Industrial projects – minimum 5 years experience
• Hands-on hydraulic calculations
Specific HVAC Job Requirements:
• A member of ASHRAE
• Working knowledge of North American HVAC codes/standards
• Industrial projects – minimum 5 years experience
• Hands-on heating and cooling calculations
• Plumbing knowledge is an asset
Specific Dust Control Job Requirements:
• Working knowledge of North American codes/standards
• Industrial projects – minimum 5 years experience
• Hands-on duct collection system design including: duct sizing, pressure drop calculations, duct layouts, duct support design, fan selection, fan power calculations.
• Hands-on dust suppression design including water sprays and agglomerate dust suppression systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Membership in technical society
• Advanced knowledge of discipline codes and standards, commercial availability and cost of materials
• Effort-hour estimating and staff forecasting
• Managing and leading a large project
• Project set-up, developing control-level schedules, progress reporting and project close-out
• Practical field experience
• Intermediate computer and software skills to include the use of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheet and electronic presentation programs
